Medina Parks: A Progress Report

 Tom James, the long time (and now recently retired) director of the Medina County park system, will discuss the past and future of parks in this critical part of our region. In at the beginning, he has presided over a dramatic expansion of the county’s parks and the many services they provide. Apart from contributing to the quality of life in Medina County, he has provided a model for other areas, some of which he now serves as a consultant. His critical role in the development of the region’s parks was instrumental in the ExCom’s selection of Tom for the 2019 Seiberling Achievement Award, which will be presented at the March Earth Day banquet.


Ohio and Ocean Preservation

We may live on the North Coast but we’re still pretty far from the nearest ocean. Yet oceans are almost as important to us as to, say,  Floridians. Here’s an easy way to find out why. Megan Pelligrino, our speaker is  operations manager of the Herbert W. Hoover Foundation, which has been funding water-related scientific research for decades. Megan will discuss the Ohio Ocean Foundation and its important work.


Really Ready for 100?

A year ago Jocelyn L. Travis told us about the Sierra  Club’s “Ready for 100” campaign and her role in persuading  Cleveland officials to make the city  carbon free by 2050.  She returns now to describe her progress, and how he campaign can be extended to other communities. Given the mess in Washington the grass roots approach may be our only hope. Join us for this report on her experiences.
