“Hospice Goes Solar”
May 15, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.
Unitarian Universalist Church
3800 Morewood Rd., Fairlawn

A group of medical professionals is busy building a hospice facility exclusively for low income patients. Electricity costs are a huge burden in such an operation and PTG has agreed to help finance an array of solar panels to keep down utility expenses. Holly Klein, together with Skip and Julie Radwany, will discuss the project and our role in it.

“Ohio’s Forests: Past and Present”
June 19, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.
Unitarian Universalist Church
3800 Morewood Road, Fairlawn

To many people from western states Ohio is often confused with that other place …Iowa. Big mistake. Ohio actually has trees, even forests, many, many forests. Some are simply inadvertent results of  agricultural decline but Ohio also has 22 state forests and the Wayne National Forest. Dave Ackerman, a wildlife biologist with long experience with public forests in California and Michigan, (as well as Co-Chair of the Chapter’s Forests and Public Lands Committee) will discuss the state of our public forests and the problems that arise from irresponsible management practices.

“Summer Picnic”
July 17, 2018  at 6:00
Shady Hollow Lodge, Sand Run Metro Park
Sand Run Parkway, Akron

Here’s an opportunity to enjoy a mid-summer evening in high style. We meet at the brand new and (by  metro park standards) elegant Shady Hollow Lodge. (It is the same location as the earlier Shady Hollow Lodge that burned several years ago.) PTG will provide sandwiches, lemonade, and iced tea. Please bring a salad or dessert to share and table service. This is an opportunity to take a closer look at what the local park system has been up to in recent months as well as to celebrate summer.
