On September 20th, the PTG sponsored a showing of the movie “Triple Divide” at the Springfield Township Community Center. It was well received, well attended, and very informative. The movie’s producers (Joshua Pribanic and Melissa Troutman) were present and led the discussion that followed the movie.
The natural gas industry goes to great expense to get the message out that fracking is safe and well regulated. “Triple Divide” documents that it is not always safe or well regulated. Many times safety complaints are ignored by State agencies.
The very lively discussion following was also very informative and showed the degree of concern and citizen involvement created when unsafe practices threaten our environment.
The Ohio Chapter of the Sierra Club filed a lawsuit with the Ohio Supreme Court on September 17 against the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for failing to comply with Ohio’s public records law.
This lawsuit was necessary to obtain information on the discharge of fracking waste into the Mahoning River by Ben Lupo, owner of Hardrock Excavating. This is the second lawsuit that we have been forced to file in two years order to get information that should open to the public.
